Why Checking Your Fountain for Leaks Matters
A fountain naturally loses some water through evaporation and splashing, but if you find yourself constantly adding water, there may be a leak that deserves attention.
Even a small leak can become a bigger problem over time. Water escaping from a fountain can increase water usage, damage surrounding surfaces, contribute to mineral staining, and allow the water level to fall below what the pump needs to operate properly. Running a pump with too little water can cause overheating and shorten its lifespan.
Leaks can develop in several places, including cracks in the fountain basin, deteriorating seals, plumbing connections, tubing, or areas where water is splashing outside the fountain. Because the source isn't always obvious, monitoring how quickly the water level drops can be an important first step in determining whether you're dealing with normal water loss or a possible leak.
Regular fountain care isn't just about keeping the water clean. It's also an opportunity to catch small problems before they become expensive ones.
